Three Questions to Ask Yourself when Shipping a Classic Car

On Monday, April 27, 2015   by ADMIN    No Comments

You just won an online auction for the hottest looking classic car around! The excitement is still high, but you just realized you are a thousand miles away from your new purchase. This might put a damper on your excitement, but luckily there are companies who transport cars for a living. Auto Transport Quotes has experience moving a wide variety of vehicles across America in a streamlined process that takes the hassle out of your hands and gets the car to your door quickly and safely. When looking for a transport company, be sure to consider exactly what you want from their services and offerings, and make sure you are aware just what type of vehicle you will be asking them to haul.

Before Calling a Transport Company, Ask Yourself the Following…

  1. Is your vehicle operable? Vehicle haulers need to be able to drive your vehicle onto and off of the hauling truck, trailer or train car. Many classic vehicles bought at auction are works in progress and may not be able to drive reliably. In this case, a completely different hauling truck with a winch system may be needed to load and unload your new car.

  2. Do you prefer open or enclosed shipping? Enclosed compartments for your vehicle may cost more, but offer your new purchase full protection from the elements during its extended road trip. You don't want it to arrive covered in splattered bugs, ash and salt from icy roads, or other unsightly debris, do you? Open shipping is cheaper, but your vehicle will be subjected to all weather conditions along the route.

  3. Has the vehicle been modified, or is it oversized? Classic vehicles such as milk trucks, old ambulances and others may be considered oversized or overweight. Modified vehicles can include extreme low riders or those used in film such as the Batmobile, for example. Moving these types of vehicles may require the hauler to use a different truck or trailer, or make some safety modifications.

Leave the Rest up to the Transporters

Everything has been discussed and worked out over the phone. You were given a great quote and are now waiting for your car to be picked up from the seller. Your job for now is done! The rest will be taken care of by the car transport company. Once your vehicle arrives, allow the transporters to unload it for you. Stay clear to prevent any accidents. After it is fully unloaded, check it over for damages or scratches. Assuming it's all clear, congratulations on your new vehicle and successful shipping experience!
